My days and weeks have been filled with table layouts and seating charts. I'm sure the first inclination is to assume this is because of my impending wedding. That is where you would be wrong...
Our awards luncheon is Friday, May 11th, and this event has become my life. My background is in events and sales, so when our ED gave her notice to leave, I had a feeling I would be stepping in to help with the transition. This added responsibility hasn't been any different from what I've done in the past, so I've been able to be effective.
There are times when I enjoy the rush of it all, talking with sponsors, working with the committee, laying out the room. But then, just as quick as the moment appeared, I am flung into the cement wall of reality. Someone sent in their sponsor form after the deadline, and they don't understand why they weren't listed in the invitation. So far, my personal favorite- We can't place Company A near Company B, because they will end up scratching each other's eyes out, only further reaffirming the statement, "High School Never Ends."
In the end, it will be a beautiful event, honoring some great individuals. When it is all over with, and I have a drink in my hand, I will smile and know I helped make that happen.
Isn't it wonderful to enjoy a job, and yes high school never ends! I am still not sure if I really enjoy my job, or I'm around so many crazy people who cause me to laugh so much everyday that I just think I like it. :)
ReplyDeleteSassy, sometimes I would rather work with all male co-workers than females for the very reason you stated, "High School Never Ends." Funny, it was like that where I was today! Keep up the hard work and "work smart."
ReplyDeleteHow impending is the wedding? Remember to enjoy the day when it arrives. It will be over before you know it. I had someone tell me that 31 years ago this month, and really did not know what they were talking about.
I'm about 5 months away from the big day! ahhhhh! I'm really starting to get freaked out about getting everything done in time now.
DeleteI find that all happenings get better with a drink in my hand. Maybe even with one for each hand. Sounds busy, stressful and yet exciting!
ReplyDeleteAs long as their is a agenda, a plan and drink everythig will work out. Inhale- exhale and breath in the moment....
ReplyDeleteI can remember the stress of wedding planning, whew.. lost a lot of sleep over details I can't even remember now. Haha!
ReplyDeleteI can't imagine planning a wedding while go through big transitions at work, you are a champ! Just remember it is all worth it in the end (especially when there are drinks)! :)
Planning a weeding is a big task for most couples. Taking on additional responsibilities at work will increase your chances of promotion, especially if you are achieving positive results.
ReplyDeleteYou will feel so great with that drink in your hand... with all tasks accomplished.
